In October of 1934, "Lux Radio Theater" debuted in New York on NBC's Blue radio network. Presenting audio versions of popular Broadway plays, the show failed to garner an audience and soon ran out of material. After switching networks to CBS and moving to Hollywood, Lux found its true market. The show began featuring adaptations of popular films, performed by as many of the original stars as possible. With an endless supply of hit films scripts and an audience of more than 40 million, Lux enjoyed a prosperous run until the curtain fell in 1956.
THIS EPISODE:
The Egg and I is a 1947 film directed by Chester Erskine, and starring Claudette Colbert, Fred MacMurray and Marjorie Main. This comedy was such a hit with audiences, it spawned the Ma and Pa Kettle film series. On May 5, 1947 Colbert and MacMurray starred in radio version of this film that was broadcast on the Lux Radio Theater. Story of adventures of young couple on a farm. It was nominated the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Marjorie Main). It tells the story of young married couple who are chicken farmers. Betty is with her husband anywhere. However their home is old, and needs to repair. When a rich single woman with a new house and new farm equipment flirts with him, Betty notices herself loving farm work.
