The Egyptian Mummy (Part 1 and 2 - COMPLETE) 1955
Exactly 60 years ago today, Stella Dallas "the true-to-life story of mother love and sacrifice" made its radio debut. Based on the novel by Olive Higgins Prouty (and the 1937 film starring Barbara Stanwyck), this soap opera chronicled the trials and tribulations of a poor woman whose daughter married "in to wealth and society. " According to John Dunning's Encyclopedia of Old Time Radio, the show "was perhaps the most excrutitating melodrama on radio." But, housewives must have eaten it up! This 15-minute/5-day-a-week program ran on NBC for 17 years. What do you say, soap fans? What present-day soap opera do you think has the most painful story lines and the most tortured characters?
